%0 Journal Article %T What Makes the Basic Scientist Tick? %A Suresh Moses Lee %J Journal of Scientific Review %D 2009 %I Scientific Review Board %X An opinion is presented on the motivation of the ideal basic researcher, of the cultural setting in which he could thrive and the values that he would cherish. It is argued that such a scientist would derive satisfaction from the excellence of his understanding of natural phenomena unrelated to any practical applications of his discoveries.
