%0 Journal Article %T Biochemistry: Acetohydroxyacid Synthase %A Pham Ngoc Chien %J Journal of Scientific Review %D 2010 %I Scientific Review Board %X Acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS, EC 2.2.1.6; formerly known as acetolactate synthase, ALS) is a thiamin-and FAD-dependent enzyme which catalyses the first common step in the biosynthesis of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) isoleucine, leucine and valine. The enzyme is inhibited by several commercial herbicides and has been studied over the last 20 to 30 years.
