%X The writings of Angela Carter explore the ambiguity of existential states where objects or subjects are not confined to a defined identity. These states in-between challenge deep seated cultural notions about issues from beauty to morality, which ultimately are a representation of the struggle between the constant transformation of nature and the human need to control the passing of time and its inevitable consequence. Carter uses cultural symbols to explore what she calls the  subterranean  areas of human experience. She sees this as a way to access the primary impulses and desires that secretly move our conscious behavior. The importance of ambiguity is the possibility of contact with different states or spaces of being. Thus the importance of limits and thresholds in her short fiction, whether these are mirrors or characters they reflect Carter¡¯s preoccupation with the interconnection between different modes of existence. Les ¨¦crits de l¡¯¨¦crivain britannique contemporain Angela Carter explorent l¡¯ambigu t¨¦ des ¨¦tats existentiels o¨´ les objets et les sujets ne sont pas fix¨¦s ¨¤ une identit¨¦ d¨¦finie.  Ces ¨¦tats   entre   remettent en question des notions culturelles ¨¦tablies au sujet de la beaut¨¦ et de la moralit¨¦ qui repr¨¦sentent finalement la lutte entre les transformations constantes de la nature et le besoin humain de contr ler le passage du temps et ses in¨¦vitables cons¨¦quences. Carter utilise des symboles culturels pour explorer ce qu¡¯elle appelle les espaces   souterrains   de l¡¯exp¨¦rience humaine. Elle voit cela comme un moyen d¡¯acc¨¦der aux impulsions et d¨¦sirs primaires qui animent secr¨¨tement notre comportement conscient. L¡¯importance de l¡¯ambigu t¨¦ r¨¦side dans la possibilit¨¦ d¡¯un contact avec les diff¨¦rents ¨¦tats d¡¯¨ºtre. D¡¯o¨´ la place pr¨¦pond¨¦rante des seuils dans ses nouvelles, qu¡¯il s¡¯agisse de miroirs ou des personnages eux-m¨ºmes, qui refl¨¨tent l¡¯int¨¦r¨ºt d¡¯Angela Carter pour l¡¯interconnexion des  diff¨¦rents modes d¡¯existence.
