The main source is the pre-raphaelitian painting Funeral of the Viking (1893), of the British Francis Dicksee, contrasted with the literature of medieval Scandinavia, archaeological vestiges and aspects of the daily life. As methodology, we adopt the imaginary of Hil¨˘rio Franco J¨˛nior and iconographic analysis of Nordic subjects proposal for the French historian R¨¦gis Boyer. Our main question is to understand the forms of Vikings images in the art contemporary and its relationship to other categories in the occidental imaginary, as the notion of barbarity, nationalistic ideals and social freedom, contributing in this way for the agreement of the contemporary readings on the Middle Ages. %K Vikings %K Imaginary %K Archaeology %U http://ppg.revistas.uema.br/index.php/brathair/article/view/600/520
