New dimensions of security policy and hierarchies of power have come up. Furthermore, an increa-sing regionalization can be identified, which is accompanied by conflicts between states regarding regional dominance. The new regional powers increase their power and influence at the regional level and at the global level as well. They have not only become new actors in the world politics, but have also gained a growing influence on the international system. Brazil, the new emerging power and an aspirant for being a regional leader, is an interesting object of analysis. The country displays, on the one hand, clear ambitions to become a global player, on the other hand, Brazil cannot ensure the allegiance in the region sufficiently. This article analyzes the phenomenon of new regional powers and their main characteristics. The example of Brazil has been chosen to serve as typical example of an emerging regional power. The article focuses on the regional ambitions of this country.
