Polyakova %J Bylye Gody %D 2012 %I Sochi State University %X The article is focused on the Black Sea Province rear activity in the First World War. The article is based on the data of local and regional periodical press, such as: Chernomorsky Kray , Sochinsky Listok , Chernomorskoe Poberezh¡¯e , Chernomorsky Listok Voyny , etc. Among the rear area activities, we can name charity for the wounded, entertainment at military hospitals, foundation of Mercy Sisters schools and Red Cross regional offices. Attention is also attached to the interaction with state institutions in charge of hospital work and the attitude of the royal family towards hospital care. Red Cross activities in the First World War are also significant. The conclusion states that cooperation between centre and outskirts in terms of help for the wounded was close in the First World War. Almost all of the work, concerning the establishment of regional (province) hospitals was charity-funded.
