Le rendu final des pi¨¨ces appara t en effet souvent comme d¨¦cevant et de qualit¨¦ m¨¦diocre, laissant penser que l¡¯on aurait affaire ¨¤ un artisanat mineur. Pourtant, au vu des contraintes auxquelles sont confront¨¦s les potiers, il faut reconna tre que ceux-ci font preuve d¡¯un r¨¦el savoir-faire technique. ¨¤ travers l¡¯¨¦tude de trois ateliers situ¨¦s dans diff¨¦rentes r¨¦gions du Y¨¦men, cet article entend dresser un ¨¦tat des lieux de la poterie contemporaine. Il se focalise notamment sur les forces et les faiblesses d¡¯un artisanat aujourd¡¯hui confront¨¦ ¨¤ de multiples d¨¦fis li¨¦s par exemple ¨¤ la transmission des savoirs, au renouvellement des techniques ou ¨¤ la concurrence de produits de consommation import¨¦s. Contrary to other forms of popular arts and crafts, contemporary Yemeni pottery is often overlooked by the public, whether Yemeni or foreign, and by academics. The production often appears as disappointing and mediocre, letting one feel that it is a minor and uninteresting craft industry. Yet, if one takes into account the different constraints that they have to deal with, Yemeni potters appear to master a specific technique. Building on three case-studies located in different Yemeni regions, this article presents an inventory of contemporary pottery. It focuses on the strengths and weaknesses of a craft industry confronted to a wide range of challenges amongst which the transmission of knowledge, the renewal of techniques and the competition created by imported products. %U http://cy.revues.org/1770
