%X Since half of the population of Nepal consists of women, it is natural that they should claim their rightful place in the society. WomenĄŻs political empowerment is a key component of democracy. WomenĄŻs relative status, however, varies from one ethnic group to another. Madheshi women are known to be more socially, politically, and economically oppressed than their Nepali sisters of other ethnic backgrounds.
