%X The past few decades have seen tremendous developments in surgeons' approaches to patients with acute traumatic injuries involving the spinal column and the spinal cord. As a result of advances in the scientific knowledge of the biomechanical and neurological bases of spinal trauma, along with ever-improved imaging modalities and operating techniques, nonsurgical and surgical management approaches to spine trauma patients have evolved. Due to its unique, diverse, and also challenging aspects, spinal trauma must be handled by orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons with subspecialty training or particular expertise in spine surgery
