%X Since the inaugural issue of Annals of Gastroenterological Surgery was published last year in 2017, we have had many excellent contributions from surgeons in all fields of gastroenterological surgery. Contributions have come from Japan and abroad, and have included a good balance of original and review articles. Our only regret has been that we are not able to publish all of the good articles that have been submitted, given the tight limit we have set regarding the number of articles that can be published per issue
