Blood and cerebrospinal fluid cultures were positive for Edwardsiella tarda. Despite prompt treatment initiation, the patient died on the third hospital day. Autopsy showed meningitis of the entire cerebrum with ventriculitis, and alcoholic fatty liver was observed.
