Hypertension in pregnancy is responsible for 18% of foetal (>19 weeks of gestation) and infant mortality and 46% of infants born small for gestational age. Early screening for preeclampsia may allow vigilant antenatal surveillance and appropriate timing of foetal delivery in order to avoid serious sequelae.
