Through several key Chinese film policy deal structures, China¡¯s centralization of film regulation policy facilitates China¡¯s ongoing efforts to become the most powerful film industry in the world. The absence of a centralized US government media policy, driven by long-term industry lobbying, has thus far blunted US efforts to challenge Chinese centralized film policy. Tracing the power dynamics behind Sino-US deal structures allows us to predict long-term vectors of volatility in Hollywood¡¯s relationship with China.
