%0 Journal Article %T A Fa£¿led Pan-Nat£¿onal£¿st In£¿t£¿at£¿ve: The Un£¿ted Arab Republ£¿c %A Kenan £¿ahin %A £¿a£¿la Mavruk Cavlak %J - %D 2018 %X In this study, the developments on the axis of the United Arab Republic (UAR) which was formed by Egypt and Syria on the basis of the Pan-Arabism ideology in 1958 and continued until 1961, will be analyzed. In this context, first, how pan-nationalism was handled as a concept will be stressed, later on this ground Pan-Arabism¡¯s development and UAR¡¯s political and economic based failures will be evaluated in the historical framework. This study assumes that pan-nationalist movements are difficult to achieve due to conflict of interests their excluding difierences in the context of harmonizing their internal dynamics. It also assumes that these movements are not accepted by the current international system due to their involving policies which aim to change present borders.
