%0 Journal Article %T Waqf of H¨¹srev Ketkhuda and It's Sources of Income in Thessaloniki %A Meryem Ka£¿an Erdo£¿an %J - %D 2018 %X Being the chamberlain of the Vizier Kara Ahmed Pasha and Mehmet Pasha Sokolovic and one of the Ottoman statesmen in the 16th century, H¨¹srev Ketkhuda was an administrative attendant who was prominent with the waqfs on a vast geography. The waqfs that were established by him in Anatolia and Rumelia, particularly in Istanbul, had an important place in meeting the societal needs. It was observed that both the endowment of H¨¹srev Ketkhuda prepared in 1573 and his addendum endowment dated to 1582 placed a premium on the water, which had a significant place in societal needs. Establishing and dedicating to the people numerous lots of facilities such as hamams (Turkish Bath), fountains, public fountains, shadirvans and snow holders in many Ottoman cities, H¨¹srev Ketkhuda endowed hundreds of real properties, appointed officials, and allocated funds for maintenance and repairing in order to continue their existence. In this research study, endowment and endowment addendum of H¨¹srev Ketkhuda will be introduced, which is composed of 74 leaves in the archives of General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, and additionally the historical artifacts of the waqf will be listed emphasizing their sources of income. Moreover, referring to particularly the double hamam (the New Hamam or H¨¹srev Ketkhuda Hamam) in Thessaloniki, caravansaray, khan, shop, serhane other properties, this research study will mention about the changes in these historical artifacts through the course of history.
