%0 Journal Article %T Mechanical Clocks in Mathematical Compendium by Ishaq Hoca %A Melek DOSAY G£¿KDO£¿AN %J - %D 2018 %X Clocks as a device to determine and measure the time that needed by all of the civilizations since ancient times, are the mechanisms which the most attracted attention and studied. For thousand of years, devices have been used to measure and keep track of time. When the first mechanical clocks were invented in the Middle Ages, they were more accurate than any previous timekeeping device. As far as known Taqi al-Din was the first to write on clocks in the Ottomans. Ishaq Hoca, who was the chief instructor of the Army Engineering School, has studied the mechanical clocks in the third volume of his monumental treatise Compendium of Mathematical Sciences consisting of four volumes.
