%T ANALYSIS OF THE SUCCESS LEVELS OF ELITE MALE AND FEMALE WEIGHTLIFTERS IN COMPETITION ATTEMPTS OF WORLD AND EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

%X The aim of this study was to compare the success levels of male and female weightlifters in competition attempts. The secondary aim was to examine the effect of the success of the competition attempts on the team rankings. After obtaining permission from Turkey Weightlifting Federation, the results of 8 World and 2 European Championship results, ,in which elite male and female weightlifters participated as a full team and received no team ranking, a total of 2184 snatch and clean and jerk lifts were used as data. Chi-square test was applied in the statistical analysis. According to the results of the analysis, there was no significant difference in the frequency of success in total snatch attempts of male and female athletes (p=0.453) and total clean and jerk attempts (p=0.570). In addition, the difference in the snatch and the clean and jerk total was not significant (p=0.522). The success rates in the total snatch of Turkish female athletes (p=0.001) and male athletes (p=0.034), were found to differ significantly from the top 3 ranked teams in European and World Championships. In team comparisons of clean and jerk attempts, significant difference was found in the attempts of Turkish male weightlifters (p=0,002) and female weightlifters (p=0,001). In the comparison of total snatch and clean and jerks attempts, significant difference was found in Turkish female weightlifters (p=0,001) and male weightlifters (p=0,001). The results of this study showed that the success levels of elite male and female weightlifters were similar in competitions attempts; however, they were found to be less successful in competition attempts when compared with the top 3 ranked teams in European and World Championships. For this reason, it can be said that the success of attempts in a competition affects the team rankings in weightlifting
