%0 Journal Article %T Rethinking Media and Religion Studies in Turkey: How to Fill in Gaps? %A Nihal Kocabay £¿ener %J - %D 2019 %X In Turkey, studies about media and religion began to publish in especially 2000¡¯s. The religion which started to gain popularity in TV programs became a subject for academic studies. Then the phenomenon of religion has had coverage on the internet and social media and different scientific study fields have opened. This study has examined media and religion researches in Turkey. In Turkey, this research field began partially late. Causes of the latency have been questioned in this article. In this study, the researches about media and religion in Turkey have evaluated by subject. Some advice has been made for the development of this academic field. According to the findings, the studies about media and religion in Turkey are mostly related to Islam. Most of the researches do not include sects and religions which represented in Turkey except Islam. Research should be done to eliminate this deficiency. These researches are thought to be important for increasing diversity. Diversity in researches will increase the diversity of researchers. On the other hand, it is argued that it is necessary for the researchers in the field of media and religion to study together for the development of the field. It should be provided that researchers can meet with periodical meetings and scientific activities.
