%0 Journal Article %T A Restrospective Analysis of Intoxication Cases in the Intensive Care Unit %A G¨¹l£¿in AYDIN %J - %D 2018 %X Objective: Intoxications due to medical drugs is a major puplic health problem. In this study, we aim to present the medical intoxication cases that was followed up in our intensive care unit (ICU) in terms of demographic parameters, initial Glasgow Coma Scores (GCS), psychiatric diagnosis, ICU stay duration, mortality rates and reveal the effect of multidrug consumption on prognosis. Material and Method: Seventy two patients diagnosed with ¡°medical drug intoxication¡± that were followed up in Kirikkale University Anesthesiology and Reanimation Intensive Care Unit between 2015-2017 years were analysed retrospectively. SPSS 21.0 programme was used for statistical analysis and significance level between groups was set at p<0.05 value. Results: Based on a total number of 72 patients, the average age was 28.26, the initial GCS avarage was 13.38 and the hospital stay duration avarage was 3.09 days. The 63.9% of the patients were female and 36.1%were male. Forty seven patients had no diagnosis of psychiatric disease while 25 patients had a diagnosis of psychiatric dissease. Considering the psychiatric diagnosis, Depressive disorder was 44.0%, major depression was 36.0%, bipolar affective disorder was 8.0%, psychotic disorder was 4.0% and schizophrenia was 8.0%. 52.8% of the patients were admitted with multidrug intoxication and 29.2%of the patients were admitted with single drug intoxication. Seventeen patients were treated with spesific antidote. Eighteen patients required endotracheal entubation and 27 patients required hemodialysis. Only one patient was reported as exitus. The most common drug that caused intoxication was antidepressants (19.4%). When the groups were compared in terms of gender, 23.9% of women who attempted suicide had a psychiatric diagnosis, while 53.8% of men had a psychiatric diagnosis (p<0.05). The GCS were lower, entubation requirements were higher and hemodialysis requirements were significantly higher in multidrug intoxications. Conclusion: In this study, medical drug caused intoxications were significantly higher in female patients and the most common diagnosis was depressive disorder.
