%0 Journal Article %T The Role of Propaganda Posters in the Encouragement of Sports to the Masses in the Soviet Union %A G¨¹l £¿AKI %A Mehmet Ali GAZ£¿ %J - %D 2019 %X The Individuals are encourage to lead a life in sport in daily life in the Soviet Union. For this purpose, propaganda activities that encourage sport for the people of the Soviet Union were made since the first years of the country's establishment. In the propaganda campaign in the Soviet Union, posters were used to increase the participation of all the masses to do sports. These posters used by the Soviet Union had a great importance for the history of sports propaganda. In this study, the use of the posters with the purpose of propaganda in encouraging the sport to the masses was examined before the intensification of the Cold War in the Soviet Union period. In this study, ten propaganda posters, which are thought to reflect the best of the universe and selected by using the typical case study within the scope of the study, were analyzed by use of semiotic analysis method in qualitative research methods. The propaganda posters determined in the study were examined in the light of French linguist Roland Barthes' semiotics concepts.
