%0 Journal Article %T A DISCUSSION AMONG THE ISLAMIC JURISTS OF DAMASCUS AND EGYPTIAN IN THE 8/14. CENTURY: THE PROBLEM OF RAISING HANDS %A Osman Bayder %J - %D 2019 %X The discussion about whether raising of the hands during the bowing cancels the pray, which was raised by Hanafi jurist Amir Khatib al-Atkani in the Damascus region where four Sunni madhabs were practiced for many years, played an important role for this discussion. Those who oppose the claim of Atkani have been the local Hanafiis and Shafi'is of that region who have been praying behind each other for centuries. The coordination of the long term debate ruled by Amir of the time, Sayfaddin Yalboga, and the involving of many Shafii-Hanafi scholars have led this debate to convey in from Damascus to Egypt. During this period, many faqih/jurists penned a lot of works to declare their views about the problem. In the next period, the discussion has continued. The debate between Atkani and those who opposes this idea apparently has been carried out over some jurisprudential issues. However, in the background of this and similar debates, the conflicts between the faqihs may cause some political consideration.
