%X This issue of sinecine introduces three new books that deal with basic issues in cinema. The essays collected in Global Art Cinema: New Theories and Histories (2018), edited by Rosalind Galt and Karl Schoonover, start with the premise of hybrid identity in art cinema. They use this identity in explorations of central questions in current film research. Thus they contribute to current debates of film theory and to the controversy concerning historicity of character. The texts in Edebiyatta, Sinemada, Televizyonda Tš¹r Kuram£¿: Temel Metinler (2018), collected by Jale £¿zata Dirlikyapan from articles about genre theory, open new ways of interpretating genre debates from diverse perspectives, from basic definition to historical, social, and cultural dimensions. In Introduction to Documentary (2017), Bill Nichols examines the peculiar qualities of documentaries, with rich examples from film history. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of the genre, centering on issues related to definition, morality, content, form, style, and politics
