The Ottoman press functioned to serve the interest of the state, which revolved around influencing public opinion. The Ottoman State tried to encourage Russian Muslims to rebel against the Russian state. Russian Muslims, especially the peoples in the Caucasus have become the focus of attention for the Ottoman Press. After the defeat of Sarikamis, the press realized the futility of their efforts to stir a rebellion. After three months of intense coverage of the topic, there was a sudden and profound silence.
