%0 Journal Article %T A Lost Waqf Monument in Central Giresun: Sultan Selim (H¨¹davendigar) Mosque %A Gazanfer £¿ltar %A Mehmet Fatsa %J - %D 2018 %X Sultan Selim Mosque, known as the first mosque of Giresun allowing Friday prayers to be performed, was founded in the field of Ta£¿ba£¿£¿ Park next to the harbor at the end of the 15th century. Sultan Selim district, the first settlement area of Muslim Turks, existed around the mosque and kept its name until today. However, there is no historical ruin left today belonging to the mosque and its waqf. According to the state archives, it is understood that the first attempt to build a mosque here was during £¿ehzade Abdullah¡¯s governorship in Trabzon. The archives giving information about this mosque and referring to it as ¡°Cami¡¯-i H¨¹davendigar¡±, belong to the 18th and 19th centuries. Notably, there were not many archives from the 17th and 18th century.
