%X The compass is one of the most important technological inventions. As a consequence of the improvements of sailing in the 19th century, some hardware improvements were made for compasses. Lord Kelvin , one of the most brilliant scientist and inventor, also worked on the sailors¡¯ compass. He took out a patent for his compass and wrote manuals for it. Our study deal with Ottoman translations of those books. Commander Ismail Rahmi translated these manuals and published for sailors. These guide manuals were written to adjusting compass errors. Those manuals are presented to demonstrate Commander Ismail Rahmi¡¯s attention to this subjec
