%X In this study, the concepts of "mainstream media" and "alternative media" were defined with the outlines and tried to be mentioned with different aspects. After the causes of the emergence of the alternative media have been specified, the study focuses on the history of alternative media and its main types and functions. The study tried to explain why there is a need for an alternative media. Mainstream media deviates from its basic values such as professional principles and ethical values for commercial interests and political concerns. The ethical values and limitations of the alternative media are also the subjects of this descriptive study
