%0 Journal Article %T ON THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD K£¿T¨¹ %A Mehmet Zeki GEL£¿R %J - %D 2019 %X According to common belief, the word k£¿t¨¹ is of Turkish origin. When scanned, we see that in the conducted etymological studies it is even not doubted .The basis for this widespread opinion is in general DLT. When the DLT, which is provided as the evidence of the word k£¿t¨¹ being in Turkish in those etymological researches has been examined no form related to this word can be found. It is been found that the forms that were claimed to pass in DLT are essentially incompatible with Turkish word k£¿t¨¹ in terms of sound and meaning. Moreover, it is relatively late to see this word in Turkish. In the main Turkic languages there is no form related with the word k£¿t¨¹. All these suggest that the word is a loanword. There is indeed a suggestion by Dankoff that the word may be a loanword.
