This study, founded on Aixelá’s Cultural-Specific Item Translation Theory and Eugene Nida’s Cultur-al Vocabulary Classification, employs the Chinese modern literary opus Cultural Odyssey as a pivotal exemplar to delve into the nuanced strategies and ramifications entailed in translating cultur-al-specific items into English. By means of a meticulous scrutiny of the ecological, sociological, and theological facets ingrained in the narrative, this treatise delineates the intricate modus operandi adopted by translators, encompassing preservation, annotation, and formal equivalence, as they navigate distinct categories of cultural-specific items. Furthermore, the research probes into the in-tricate conundrums that confront translators during the translational endeavor, and the art of ef-fectively conveying the multifaceted cultural subtext inherent in the source text during the English rendition. This research aspires to proffer pragmatic directives for the realm of cross-cultural translation, while underscoring the seminal import of Chinese contemporary literary works in the arena of international dissemination.
