%X this paper discusses the many meanings given to the deaths of two poor women in bel¨¦m do par¨¢ (brazil). these women were killed at different times and had the story of their lives and deaths evoked by writers, scholars and the media, as an example to be followed by other women, revealing ideals of fidelity, marriage, family. if in modern days the strength of these stories still emerges with different meanings, the past was not different, indicating the many meanings given to their lives and deaths.
