%X letters from/in western and eastern berlin are the starting point of this article, in which we examine the illocutionary and perlocutionary strength of this textual type in the novels morir en berl¨ªn by carlos cerda and el desierto by carlos franz. additionally, the article discusses the problems of guilt, forgiveness, memory, told/lived history and some intertexts that link both novels.
