%X this article arg¨¹es that because of chile's independence and its eventual process of state-formation, the country needed to establish a new political-administrative order dividing the national territory according to a republican model. however, this was a foreign idea, because the origins of the model applied in chile carne from france's territorial divisi¨®n into departments that emerged after the french revolution of 1789. this event gave an egalitarian and republican ideological support to the space organization.
