%X the aim of this study was to describe the species of cordyline occurring in paran¨¢ state, specifically cordyline sellowiana kunth, by analyzing specimens from several herbaria in the state. c. sellowiana is characterized by linear sessile leaves, terminal inflorescences and purple pedicellate flowers; apex of the sepals acuminate and apex of the petals obtuse. collected in 26 municipalities of paran¨¢ state, it occurs in the following types of vegetation: estepe ombr¨®fila, floresta estacional semidecidual subx¨¦rica, floresta ombr¨®fila densa and floresta ombr¨®fila mista. based on the criteria of iucn red list, the state of conservation of the species was defined into the category of least concern (lc). it is commonly known as uvarana, varana, guara¨ªva, or cordiline, and is used for animal and human nutrition, pharmacology, environmental restoration and as ornamental plant.
