%0 Journal Article %T Descripci¨®n del f¨¦mur de Protomegalonyx chasicoensis Scillato-Yan¨¦ (Mammalia, Xenarthra, Megalonychidae) de la Formaci¨®n Arroyo Chasic¨® (Mioceno tard¨ªo), provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina: Consideraciones sistem¨¢ticas sobre los perezosos de Edad Chasiquense %A Brandoni %A Diego %J Ameghiniana %D 2009 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X the description of the femur of the sloth protomegalonyx chasicoensis scillato-yan¨¦ is based on a right complete femur (mmp m 478) from the arroyo chasic¨® formation (late miocene) in the southwest of buenos aires province. protomegalonyx chasicoensis is characterized by smaller size than protomegalonyx doellojuradoi kraglievich and protomegalonyx praecursor kraglievich; fovea capitis within the femoral head; greater trochanter less developed; third trochanter slender and projected; as in p. doellojuradoi and p. praecursor, distal facets separated and epicondyles projected. the sloths present in the above mentioned unit are represented by five species: the nothrotheriidae xyophorus bondesioi scillato-yan¨¦ and chasicobradys intermedius scillato-yan¨¦, carlini and vizca¨ªno; anisodontherium halmyronomum (cabrera) (megatheriidae, megatheriinae); the octomylodontinae octomylodon robertoscagliai scillato-yan¨¦, and p. chasicoensis. protomegalonyx kraglievich and octomylodon ameghino are recorded from the "conglomerado os¨ªfero" (late miocene) of entre r¨ªos province. chasicobradys intermedius is very similar to neohapalops rothi kraglievich from the mentioned unit of entre r¨ªos province, and is probably its junior synonym. this suggests a closer relationship between the sloth faunas of the arroyo chasic¨® formation and "conglomerado os¨ªfero" than has been noted previously. %K protomegalonyx %K megalonychidae %K buenos aires province %K arroyo chasic¨® formation %K late miocene. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0002-70142009000300006&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
