%X abstract this paper focuses on the process of documentary creation of a testament written in the old province of merida in 1620 with particular interest in the grapho-phonic, morphological, and syntactic analysis of the text. the document reveals a language with the characteristic properties of a system in transition between two linguistic norms: the disappearing medieval norm and the modern one in process of settling. it offers a vision, partial though, of the spanish written in m¨¦rida in the first half of the xvii century. this particular spanish showed already the features of the context in which it was evolving: the social and cultural structures inside which it was settling, changing, and functioning.
