%0 Journal Article %T La Oraci¨®n Condicional en Kari£¿£¿a: La Morfolog¨ªa de La Irrealidad y La Contrafactualidad %A ¨¢lvarez %A Jos¨¦ %J Boletin de Linguistica %D 2008 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X this paper describes conditional sentences in kari£¿£¿a, a carib(an) language of venezuela spoken by some 4451 people. the conditional sentence is a sentence integrated by a subordinate, adverbial clause or protasis (p), which expresses the condition, and a main clause or apodosis (a), which expresses the result. most classifications of such sentences analyze the semantic relationship between p and a, as well as its formal expression by means of the morpho-semantic properties of the verbs in both clauses. we explain how, in kari£¿£¿a, structural aspects are related to the manners of possible interpretations. we focus on the differences between irrealis conditionals and counter-factual conditionals. finally, a morphological analysis is provided for the main verb forms used in both clauses of these sentences. %K kari£¿£¿a %K conditional %K subordination. %U http://www.scielo.org.ve/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S0798-97092008000200002&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
