%X by means of a case study, this paper characterizes a port complex (pc) as a resource for the acquisition of competitive advantage, under the resource based view perspective. the results reveal that the pc is a heterogeneous, sustainable and suitable resource. the advantages provided by the resource and its importance for strengthening and integrating the cooperative system in rio grande do sul, brazil, are also highlighted.
