Torsional Oscillations Excited by Feeding in Subsynchronous Currents from the Grid into the Electrical Generator

Matthias Humer
In the following article, results of the investigation on the effect of feeding subsynchronous currents from the electric grid in the generator are presented. In the end, torsional oscillations of the shaft train are excited, which can reach very high amplitudes in case of resonance. In time with the torsional oscillations, the synchronous generated voltage induced in the stator winding oscillates, which leads to the feed of subsynchronous currents from the generator into the electrical network....

Experimental Study on Electrically Assisted Pressure Solid-State Welding of Titanium Alloy Plate

Yongfang Li, Yali Yang
In this paper, the electrically assisted pressure solid-phase welding of titanium alloy plate is studied. Two different sizes of dies are used to apply pressure to the specimens. At the same time, electric current is applied to the specimens which are in plastic compression deformation. After welding, the joint strength is evaluated by tensile tests. The results show that for the small dies, the optimal thickness reduction corresponding to the maximum fracture load for a given current intensity ...

Research on the Control System of Horizontal Well Tractor Driving Motor

Jie Wang, Yongjun Chen, Zhou He, Kuan Shi, Yinsheng Li
In recent years, the global demand for oil has been increasing. In order to reduce production costs, horizontal drilling technology is basically used for deep oil storage, so a cable-driven downhole towing system (horizontal well tractor) has emerged. The traditional horizontal well tractor drive motor has large volume, low efficiency, high vibration and noise, and cannot meet the requirements. Therefore, a permanent magnet synchronous motor with small size, light weight and high efficiency is p...

Sparse Recovery Diagnosis Method Applied to Hybrid Dynamical System: The Case of Three-Phase DC-AC Inverter for Wind Turbine

Wafa Torki, Jean-Pierre Barbot, Malek Ghanes, Lassaad Sbita
Power electronic systems tend to be great contributors to faults in many applications especially wind turbines because they are exposed to harsh operation conditions in height. Thus, a great attention has been paid to fault diagnosis technologies. In this paper, the concept of an exact recovery under a sparse fault assumption is applied to the diagnosis of three-phase DC-AC power electronic inverter, this method is denoted as Sparse Recovery Diagnosis (SRD). This method has the advantage to reco...

Investigation of Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger with Disc-and-Doughnut Baffles

Kuerbanjiang Wusiman, Zhaolun Zhou
Disk and doughnut baffles configuration for shell tube heat exchangers (STHXs) is one of the solutions for compensating the higher pressure drop penalty induced by conventional segmental baffles. Furthermore, absently reliable references for the optimum design of this type of STHXs are our main purpose to carry out this investigation. From modeling numerical simulation results, with 7 baffles and 70% baffles ratio geometrical dimension is suggested the optimum configuration of this type of heat ...

Electronic Circuit Failure Detection Using Thermal Image

Azrul Mahfurdz, Rohaizan Saher, Wan Ghani Wan Pi
This inspection of electronic circuits can be performed either by connection with voltage supply and without voltage supply. However, inspections during the working circuit may invite serious harm and damage to the components in the circuit. Usually, the method used is to measure the current and voltage values in the circuit based on the reading reference when the circuit is in normal condition. There is another method that can help check the current circuit condition by using image processing m...

Triangular Omnidirectional Wheel Motion Control System

Shimin Hu, Hongyu Chen, Yang Shao
Omni-directional wheels are more flexible than traditional wheeled robots. Through three rounds of omni-directional wheel mobile platform modeling and kinematics analysis. The speed of the three wheels can be analyzed when the omni-moving platform moves in a certain direction. Then the CPU by the PID algorithm to calculate the connection of omni-directional wheel three dc motor need duty ratio, round so as to realize omnidirectional mobile platform of fast moving to any Angle. The experimental r...

Déja vu and Wind Turbines: A Review of Lived Experiences after Appeals of Ontario Industrial-Scale Wind Power Facilities

Jane Wilson, Carmen Krogh, Paula C. Peel
This paper is a review of reports of lived experiences of residents in rural/small-town Ontario, Canada and a comparison to the concerns raised during citizen-sponsored appeals of industrial-scale wind power project approvals. We found that the concerns leading to the decisions to appeal power projects have been borne out in real-life experience, as government documents record thousands of complaints about adverse effects on the environment and human health. These findings support the need for e...

Multi-Memory Grouping Wrapper with Top Level BIST Algorithm

Narek Mamikonyan, Suren Abazyan, Vakhtang Janpoladov
This algorithm integrates second level Built in self-test (BIST) into multiple memory grouping wrapper. Second level BIST brings additional reliability into memory system while fastening testing time. Main approach is to test whole memory modules from top level by numerous step count of which can be modified based on power consumption requirement and overheat conditions. The worst case of the algorithm can be observed by the time when number of steps is equal to the number of memory modules, oth...

Electrochemical Advanced Oxidation Processes (EAOPs) for Disinfecting Water—Fresh Perspectives

Djamel Ghernaout, Noureddine Elboughdiri, Saad Ghareba, Alsamani Salih
During recent decades, study endeavors have been performed at elaborating more efficient techniques for handling waters carrying pathogens. Among such methods, the famous electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) have induced augmenting attention. Such methods are founded on electro-chemically producing powerful oxidants like hydroxyl radicals (●OH). This work portrays a global view on killing different microorganisms by some usual EAOPs. Electrochemically-driven techniques are earnin...
