Introduction: The word cosmeceutical was first conceived in 1961 by Raymond Reed. The term was further popularized by Dr. Albert Kligman in 1984 and by 1996 the cosmeceuticals products made their first appearance in the world market. The word “cosmeceutical” continues to evolve since then to date. However, most people are either ignorant of it or confused it with cosmetics generally. It lacks a proper definition and its difference from individual cosmetics and pharmaceutical agents seem to be in...

Development of drug-resistant lines in rodent malaria parasites left us a deep impression on antidrug specificity of antimalarial drug-resistant lines, which is similar to antigen-induced antibody. Based on this comparison, “specific antidrug substance” was proposed to explain antidrug specificity of drug-resistant lines. If “specific antidrug substance” refers to a protein that is quite like antibody, the concept of “specific antidrug substance” is wrong because no such protein has been discove...

Based on a novel antiviral theory, we propose that taking paracetamol and vitamin C or ibuprofen and vitamin C every day could be a very simple way to prevent COVID-19 infection. To prove the effectiveness of these drug combinations, urgent clinical trials should be carried out. Mass drug administration plays a very important role in the containment of COVID-19 pandemic. Prophylactic drugs might not provide 100% protection, but can reduce coronavirus deaths and severe cases, which might facilita...

The ongoing spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed much systemic vulnerability to health care, the economy, and to the normal functioning of society worldwide. As a result of the accumulating stress, many young people find it difficult to cope with mounting pressure and revert to drug and substance abuse. Background: Sustained-release matrix tablets have been used to present a wide range of drugs for oral use. Matrix tablets are formed by compaction of drug granules prepared by granulation of drug-polymer mix. Objective: This study was to evaluate different granule sizes of ibuprofen produced using two polymers and determine whether granule size and polymer type influenced Ibuprofen release from the sustained-release matrix tablets. Method: Ethyl cellulose and Carbopol 940 were used separately at...

Anesthesia induction consists of pre-oxygenation, intravenous agent, muscle relaxant which causes apnea for laryngoscopy and intubation. The three commonly used intravenous agents are Ketamine, Propofol and Thiopentone. However, various views have been expressed in relation to oxygen saturation during anesthesia. The study sought to affirm the rate of oxygen desaturation during suxamethonium apnea in relation to the intravenous induction agent used. An observational research design was adopted f...

This is a detailed experimental and comparative study evaluating the harmful effects of graded loud noise on hematological and antioxidant in Wistar albino rats. Wistar albino rats were divided into a control group (those kept away from the noise due to a generator set), groups 1 (exposed to varied, 85 - 105 db levels of loud noise from a generator) and groups 2 (exposed to less, 40 - 55 db levels of loud noise from generator set) and exposed to way off fumes from electrical generator sounds at ...

We study the effects of the self-reported intake of stimulants, depressants and hallucinogens on investor overconfidence. A total of 105 investors participated. We find that the frequency of drug use did not affect overcon-fidence. However, overconfidence was correlated with the use of psycho-tropic drugs in our sample; regardless of type, we find a positive correlation of 15 percent. Correlation of investor overconfidence with st ...
