Infectious diseases such as bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic diseases continue to have a significant impact on global health. Hence, knowledge on how infection spread, population vulnerable to it and factors that determine where and when these infectious diseases occur is crucial for improving clinical trials and proffer effective treatment. This research work seeks to model disease incidence of malaria using the SEIR-SEI compartmental model. Secondary data on the incidence of Malaria dise...

Understanding why a machine learning model makes a certain prediction is just as critical as how accurately it predicts, especially when it comes to diagnosing and treating cardiovascular disease. In this study, we applied explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques to improve both the predictive power and interpretability of heart disease detection models. A dataset of 1,025 patient records was thoroughly preprocessed, including the handling of missing values, the ...

Fungi have been a source of great concern because they are perfect candidates for heavy metal bioremediation. The fungus with tolerance to the heavy metal was screened from the mining soil samples. The fungus was characterized as Aspergillus sp. Y9 based on the morphological and ITS sequencing analysis. Y9 exhibited high levels of resistance to cadmium and lead. Y9 was investigated for its miro-morphology and application in heavy removal with different concentration Cd(II) (0, 50,100 and 200 mg/...

This study was conducted to investigate the acute toxic effects of ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin and florfenicol, which are widely used antibacterial drugs, on loach. Through a well-planned experimental design, we systematically monitored the physiological and behavioral characteristics of loach under different drug concentrations and exposure time, and evaluated the toxic effects of these drugs. Under specific test conditions, i.e. water temperature is maintained at (10.0 ± 2.0)℃, and the pH value...

Infrared (IR) dyes, especially those within the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum, hold significant promise for in vivo visualization, due to their ability to access biological tissues and significantly reduce background interference from autofluorescence. Nanoparticles integrated with IR dyes have undergone extensive investigation regarding their pharmacokinetic behavior, including biodistribution patterns and clearance mechanisms. These nanoparticles exhibit a remarkable ability to prefere...

This study compared Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Optical Motion Capture (OMC) systems in measuring peak ankle angles and Range of Motion (ROM) during Countermovement Jumps (CMJ) and Lateral Skater Jumps (LSJ). Data during these agility movements were analyzed and the ankle angles in pitch, roll, and yaw for the IMU were determined using algorithms which integrated gyroscope data, aligned it with foot flat reference, and fused it with accelerometer-derived inclination angles using a comple...

Smartphone-based Oximetry device as early healthcare detection is a technological frontier. Smartphone oximetry devices offer a convenient method for remote SpO 2 monitoring and early detection of critical health issues, especially during pandemics when vital indicators are necessary. Rising healthcare demands, and the COVID-19 pandemic are recent causes necessitating the prevalence for accessible early detection tools. This research investigates smartphone oximetry device as a conveni...

Core@shell nanoparticles are advanced functional materials with modified properties combined into a single unity leading to their enhanced physico-chemical properties. In biomedical field, bi/tri/or multi-metallic Gold-Based Nanocrystals (GBNCs) and metamaterials, with core@shell heteronanostructures exhibit superior plasmonic properties with a broad range from sensing technology to nanomedicine. In this review paper, we investigated the recent trends of gold nanoparticles with a particular focu...

There are various methods used to treat cancer including the use of natural compounds. This paper describes the investigation of the cytotoxic effects of the plant Senna’s secondary compounds when exposed to different types of cancer cells. Cassia angustifolia (senna) is a native plant of Yemen, Somalia and Arabia. It is used medicinally in other parts of the world. The practical experiments carried out aim at showing the rate of growth inhibition of the cancer cells after their exposure to the ...

Bacillus sp is microorganism’s species which can produce keratinase enzyme. The enzyme has ability to degrade keratine substrate and it belongs to extraceluler inducible enzyme group.
In this study, proteolitic activities of Bacillus strains isolated from soil contaminated with poultry farm waste were determined on Skim milk Agar. 63 Bacillus strains were identified as proteolytic. Nine of these strains showed activity with the keratin-azure substrate and were determined to be keratinolytic.
