La burriquita tiene bigotes: Travestismo e inversión sexual en las manifestaciones populares venezolanasKeywords: burriquita, popular culture, transvestic fetishism, sexual inversion, venezuela. Abstract: the burriquita (a popular dance in which the protagonist is a man dressed up as a woman and riding on a donkey) tends to be a man who makes no effort to disguise his masculine features; and in venezuela there are at least a dozen popular, almost exclusively rural, traditions which are based on this sort of sexual inversion. the interest of the author is not so much to offer an ethnographical compilation as to consider the implications of the phenomenon for the discussion over gender and sexual diversity. the article examines the possible discourses and practices associated with these manifestations for the every-day gender relations of the communities, commenting how the women remain reduced to the role of spectators.
