Evolución de la dependencia externa proteínica y sus determinantes macroeconómicos en el periodo 1989-2006

this paper aims to analyze the performance of venezuela foreign protein dependency and the macroeconomic factors that influence it, during 1989-2006 period. it is based on a systemic approach, which emphasize the relation of the agro-food system with the economic setting. time series data were elaborated from indicators to measure foreign protein dependency and protein adequacy. the author concludes that an exchange rate appreciation process has prevailed during the period analyzed. this process together with oil boom and the food policy implemented during the last stage of the period, stimulated a tendency to increase foreign protein dependency during the period analyzed, in relation to the end of 1980？s decade.
