Mayor frecuencia de microalbuminuria en mujeres en un programa de diabetes de un hospital público del sur de la provincia de Santa Fe

Abstract:

diabetes control and associated risk factors are a public health problem. the aim of this study was to characterize diabetic patients with at least 10 years' duration of disease who attended hospital provincial alejandro gutiérrez in venado tuerto city as part of a specific diabetes management program. an observational and cross-sectional study was performed with data obtained from medical records (n = 88). ninety-two percent 95 % ci: 84.3-96.7 %) of patient had type 2 diabetes; mean age 63.0 ± 10.9 years and mean body mass index (bmi, kg/m2) 30.9 ± 6.4. bmi was significantly higher in women than men. the following prevalences were found: hypertension (ht): 77.8 % (67.2-86.3 %); microalbuminuria: 46.2 % (34.8-57.8 %); total cholesterol >200 mg/dl: 38.5 % (27.7-50.2 %); triglycerides >150 mg/dl: 41.0 % (30-52.7 %). microalbuminuria tended to be associated with the presence of hypertension and with a bmi >27 kg/m2. the significantly higher prevalence of microalbuminuria found in women as compared to men is may be possibly related to female overweight.
