EL ANTICUERPO MONOCLONAL Ki-67 COMO ELEMENTO DE VALOR DIAGNóSTICO Y PRONóSTICO EN NEOPLASIAS MAMARIAS CANINASDOI: 10.4067/S0716-98682002000200008 Keywords: mammary gland tumours, inmunohistochemistry. Abstract: the "cancer problem" that many people think of as a human phenomenon also affects the domestics animals. like people, more and more companion animals (i.e., dogs and cats) are living longer due to better quality of life, preventive medical care, and vaccinations. and longer life means an increased of developing cancer. to contribute to the diagnostic and the prognostic, new tools have appeared. as they are it the inmunohistochemistry techniques. between these is the antibody ki-67, which detects a nuclear antigen that is expressed in the cells that enter to the cellular cycle, providing a direct measure of the fraction of growth of the tissues to determine the utility of the antibody ki-67 in canine mammary tumours, was applies to the inmunohistochemical techniques to 31 specimen of the tumours: 14 benign and 17 malignant. the benign tumours presented an proliferation index (pi) average of 12.2%. the malignant tumours presented an pi average of 19.3% . from the results can conclude that the benign tumours presented pi lower of 15% and the malignant tumours presented pi upper 15%. the antibody ki-67 can constitute an important diagnostic and prognostic tool for the veterinary medicine
