the objective of this article is to get to know some opinions of elite brazilian and guatemalan political party members regarding themes that could be polemic and divide the opinions of these party leaders. results indicated that a coincidence exists in the opinions of both elite groups. opinions offered by members of these elite groups indicate that the parties should take positions on polemic issues, because these topics are on the discussion agendas for social groups. this article will try to answer some questions using data from the study political parties and governability in latin america.
