Abstract:

to select potato genetic materials adaptable to two producing areas in venezuela, this research was carried out with 5 advanced clones, three cultivars and a peruvian clone. essays were installed in mucurubá, mérida state, at 3150 masl, and sabana grande, lara state, at 1400 masl. agronomical practices were performed by the farmers and evaluations were made on tuber yield per plant, categorized by tuber size, incidence and severity of spongospora subterranea, and quality variables at post-harvest. the best yield in mucurubá was obtained with cv `esperanza' (2.011 k.plant-1), followed by `granola' and `andinita'; clones 393134-10 (1.250 k.plant-1) and 393180-23 (1.144 k.plant-1) were also in a second place. in sabana grande, there was not significant difference between materials, however, cultivars showed higher yields, with `andinita' (0,823 k.plant-1) as the best, followed by al-624 (0,806 k.plant-1). the best advanced clones were 393134-10 (0,579 k.plant-1) and 393194-1 (0,568 k.plant-1). with regard to incidence and severity of s. subterranea, materials with less value were `esperanza' and the clones 393180-23 and 393194-1. with respect to past-harvest quality, 393134-10, 393180-23 and `esperanza' showed dry matter over 20% and specific gravity more than 1,010 g.cm-3. in general, the evaluated clones and cultivars showed similar starch values. reducing sugar content was high in most of the materials. in conclusion, based on tuber size, dry matter, specific gravity, starch and sugar contend, the potentiality of most of the clones is for table stock.
