Morbi-mortalidad por influenza y neumonía de los adultos en Venezuela 1995-2006

influenza and pneumonia are an important global public health problem due to high number of death and incapacities, high social and economic burden. we study the tendencies of the morbid-mortality in venezuela between 1995 and 2006. it was a review and analysis of official registry of morbid-mortality of the ministry of health, national institute of statistics, surveillance influenza and acute respiratory illnessess bulletins. descriptive statistical of time, person and place of cases and deaths. calculate of average and differential rates. rate mobility for pneumonia for people over 5 years old was 833 per 105 during 2005 with a lethality of 1.1 %. influenza and pneumonia are in the first positions of the ranking of death for all ages. although influenza represents only less than 1 %. crude mortality rates are descending in all groups but significantly in infants less than 1 year old and elderly above 65 y.o. there is a discrete increase in death during rainy season. adults represent 57 % of proportional mortality and male have higher rates. there is a significant difference between states within venezuela. bacterial etiology is 30 % of the pneumonias, 1 % viral and rest unknown. pneumonia is an important cause of presentable morbid-mortality in venezuela. there are need to improve etiological diagnosis. implementation of immunizations programs against influenza and pneumonia for high risk groups and strengthen medical attention.
