Abstract: from a critical perspective, the article approaches the curriculum competences on the mexican higher education. though, it is premature to make a balance assessment over the results, it is predictable that so much zeal of change does not achieve a real reform of the university education, judged by the confusion that exists among the professorship and their conceptions over the meaning of competences and how to develop them in their students. the text is organized in four parts: i) the new university curriculum, ii) a competences curriculum, iii) the participation of the professorship in times of change and, iv) final reflections.
