the technique of random amplified polymorphic dna (rapd) analysis was used to identify whitefly biotypes present in tomato fields on the baja california, mexico. we determined that 75% b. tabaci biotype b, 12% biotype a, 10% trialeurodes vaporariorum, and 3% indeterminate species. according to pcr analysis tomato chino la paz virus was detected in 95% of the population and the virus was present in almost all the geographical areas.
