Abstract:

bactericera cockerelli (sulc) (homoptera: psyllidae) is an important pest of solanaceous in mexico, for its control the use of pesticides is the main method. reason why the use of natural enemies under an integrated management system, has been little used, as in the case of chrysoperla carnea (stephens) (neuroptera: chrysopidae), reported biological control agent for this pest, however lack studies to determine their control potential. therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the type and parameters of functional response of c. carnea on nymphs of b. cockerelli. the logistic regression analysis revealed that the functional response of the three larval instars of c. carnea on nymphs of b. cockerelli was type ii. the three instars consumed nymphs of b. cockerelli, however the third instar had higher consumption, shorter handling and greater coefficient of attack, these results demonstrated that c. carnea was voracious and predatory capacity is a function of their state of development, the third instar revealed high potential to reduce pest populations, suggesting that can be included in systems integrated pest management based augmentative biological control.
