Abstract:

The aim of this study was the analysis of the total contents of Zn, Cu, Pb and salinity of the soil humus horizon (0-30 cm) depending on the distance from the busy S owackiego Street. The research was made in the Stefan Kownas Dendrological Garden, located in the Szczecin city centre. Soil salinity decreased with increasing distance from the street. Soils located closest to the street had nearly twice as much electrical conductivity as soils located at further distances, although they cannot be considered as saline soils with regard to the existing criteria. The highest total contents of zinc, copper and lead were noted in the humus horizon of soils located closest to the street. A significant decrease in metal content with distance from the street was observed mainly in the case of Cu. The total content of copper was high only in the area closest to the street, although it did not exceed admissible values. The zinc total contents generally increased, but did not exceed the admissible value in any case. The humus horizon of the soils studied was most contaminated by lead. The total contents of this metal were elevated in soils from all zones, but in the soil located closest to the street it exceeded the admissible values defined by Polish law.
